Course outline

A new program designed for people to acquire and develop key theoretical and practical workplace skills in the field of environment protection. The program is addressed to employees of oil and gas industries.

Course Objective is to provide knowledge of the negative impact on environment and its consequences during exploration, production, processing, transportation and storage of oil and gas.

Students will learn:

- Basic of chemistry and technology of oil and gas processing and concomitant risks;
- Fire hazards of oil and petroleum;
- Oil and petroleum behavior in natural environment;
- Environment control regulations of Russian Federation;
- Use of PC and special equipment for environmental monitoring; - Methods of physicochemical examination of petroleum in environmental objects.

Theoretical knowledge is combined with laboratory work on methods and equipment of petroleum examination and environmental monitoring at oil and gas industries.

The course includes formal lectures, seminars, laboratory work and practical training which take place at specially equipped classroom, museum of physical evidence and laboratories of the Department of Fire Research and Investigation.

Assessment involves a combination of tests and examinations.
